Well, Christmas is over and New Year is just on the horizon. Time to take stock of what is working in our shops and what needs tweaking. I hope our businesses grow and bloom in the coming year just like this Amaryllis has started to do :)

Resources List

Hey, guys, I thought we could start a resource list for artists and craftspeople in the Maritimes -- so that we can share great local shops or online sources with other East Coasters.

I though we could organize them into categories, eventually.

Here's a few of my favourites:

Have a Yarn, Mahone Bay, NS -- one of the best local yarn shops I've ever seen, this store on Mahone Bay's Main Street is packed full of the best handcrafted local and imported yarns, plus some great commercial lines, patterns, accessories and more. Run by VERY knowledgeable people, too.

Java Bead, Bridgewater, NS -- no website yet. Java Bead has just opened on Bridgewater's main street (conveniently located next to the pub!) and has a lovely selection of top quality beads and semi precious stones. They have some wonderful sterling fittings, crystals, lampwork beads and offer a series of classes in jewelry making. Recommended!

Welcome to Mingling Threads and Hello Pineapples!

We have two new Etsy shops joining us today at APST: Mingling Threads and Hello Pineapples, both from Nova Scotia. It's great to have you with us, guys!

Mingling Threads

"I’m an equal opportunity crafter; I can weave, crochet, knit, and sew. I love learning new things. When creating, I enjoy working with natural fibres, I love playing with colour, and I like to add special details to make each item unique." This crafter sells a number of beautiful handcrafted items, including adorable dog sweater modelled by the cutest dog known to man, Robin.

Hello Pineapples

"Hello Pineapples! is a full time grad student and a part-time artist/crafter/knitter. She likes to think of her work as folk art on crack - maybe what Maude Lewis' paintings would have looked like if she had gone insane. Most are based on drawings made with MS Paint and Photoshop. She has done a workshop on how to make sock monkeys for the IWK Children's Hospital Telethon, where she was interviewed by a muppet."
